In Dialogue: Wellbeing for School Communities

ACEL’s partnership with the Science of Learning Research Centre at the University of Queensland brings together educators and researchers. Our common aim is to explore evidence-based research and the implications of these for teaching, leading and learning. Following on from a very successful and engaging seminar last month, we are pleased to announce the second in a series of ‘In dialogue’ sessions.

This session will examine the science behind the notion of wellbeing, provide an overview of some current wellbeing projects and research, and hear from a range of school leaders across all sectors on how schools are addressing the wellbeing needs of their communities. An opportunity to listen to researchers and educators, network with like-minded professionals, and consider implications for your own workplace promises to make this a valuable dialogue for researchers, teachers, and school leaders.

 Dr Louise McCuaig - Associate Professor Health, Sport and Physical Education and Chair of Teaching and Learning at the School of Human Movement & Nutrition Science, The University of Queensland - will chair the seminar. Louise’s teaching and research draws on social theory to explore the role that teachers, schools, health education policy and practice play in shaping and promoting young people’s healthy living.
Professor Annemaree Carroll - Associate Dean Research in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Professor of Educational Psychology at The University of Queensland -will provide an overview of a range of her SLRC research projects exploring the wellbeing of both teachers and learners.
Professor Ross Cunnington - Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience in the School of Psychology, The University of Queensland - will provide insight into the biological underpinnings of and impact of wellbeing.

 PANEL: Insight into how schools are schools are responding to wellbeing needs of their communities, and how they are balancing these needs with other competing priorities will be explored in-dialogue with a range of school leaders. This panel will feature:

Kathryn Bekavac - Senior Education Officer in Student Wellbeing with Brisbane Catholic Education and PhD candidate;
Holly O’Sullivan-Williams - Dean of Students, St Aidans Anglican School
Peter Algate – Literacy Intervention Coordinator, Marsden State High School; Masters candidate in Teacher Wellbeing
Jessie Fraser – Associate Head of Campus, Ipswich Flexi School
