Dr Barbara Watterston appointed as ACEL’s Chief Executive Officer

27/04/2021

As a result of a highly competitive national search process, we are delighted to formally welcome Dr Barbara Watterston as ACEL’s Chief Executive Officer.

Barbara has extensive experience across all education sectors and has held a range of executive leadership positions within education and not-for-profit organisations.  Recognised nationally and internationally for her contribution to educational leadership and professional learning, her expertise is regularly sought out to contribute in an advisory capacity through numerous university, departmental, school and professional boards. Her design and development of leadership programs and research contributed to five major national recommendations for preparing future school leaders. Barbara’s doctoral thesis focused on gender, leadership, and learning, which informed her contribution as co-editor of the book Women in School Leadership: Journeys to Success, and more recently, Step In, Step Up with co-author Jane Kise, which has received a silver medal in the 2020 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards.

Barbara took on the role as ACEL’s Acting CEO over the past six months, following the success of the recent Global Online Conference in which she participated as host and moderator.  She has since been working closely with the Board in setting ACEL’s strategic plans, while ensuring we continue to provide professional learning opportunities and services to our valued members and customers.

We look forward to Barbara’s contribution in shaping the future of ACEL.
