Inquiry-The Heart of leading learning (4 Pt. Series)

NSW ACEL are delighted to bring together a group of outstanding educators and researchers to explore how developing an inquiry stance maximises collaborative practices. This 4-part series - Inquiry - The Heart of leading learning is a unique opportunity to connect and delve more deeply into the inquiry process, it’s impact and significance in achieving improvement for educators and learners. These sessions connect the elements of inquiry to enable a coherent understanding of the inquiry process and its application at systems, education sites and classroom levels.  We invite you to join us as a team or individual. This series will provide an ideal opportunity for school teams and executive teams to engage with each session as the basis of exploring concepts and practices in your own context based on the research and expertise of these outstanding educators.

 Wednesday May 4th 4pm-5:30pm NSW time
Facilitated by Ann McIntyre

This series opener explores what inquiry is, why it matters, and how it underpins leadership effectiveness. Inquiry is at the heart of impactful leadership. This requires an openness to learning, moving beyond current assumptions, with collective purpose, a clear sense of efficacy, and a desire to make a greater difference for all students. When leaders and teams share a commitment to inquiring into the impact of their current practices, and use evidence to co-create new ways to connect their learning to student learning, they develop powerful cycles of improvement.

 

Wednesday June 22nd 4pm-5:30pm NSW time
Facilitated by Professor Emeritus Helen Timperley and Dr. Kaye Twyford

Leaders’ engagement in genuine inquiry into how to develop a learning culture in their schools culminates over time to shift thinking about what it means to be a leader. We have captured these shifts in the idea of adaptive expertise where educators use their deep educational knowledge and skills flexibly and responsively rather than subscribing to preconceived ideas about what effective leadership and teaching should look like. In this session, we will describe the key attributes of adaptive expertise, the implications for leadership, and the shifts involved in developing it through inquiry.

Facilitated by Dr. Jenni Donohoo

Collaborative inquiry is a powerful way to engage in professional learning. When teams discover and implement strategies that result in better student outcomes, they realise collective impact. By engaging in collaborative inquiry, teams tap into the sources of collective efficacy which results in successful and sustainable school improvement. In this workshop we will explore how educators can work together in teams to build collective efficacy that leads to a direct impact on teaching and student learning.

 

Wednesday September 7th 4pm-5:30pm NSW Time
Facilitated by Laureate Professor Jenny Gore

This workshop looks at the practicalities and processes of inquiry which support teachers to learn together, identify and create solutions to contextual issues. This workshop will focus of approaches to locate, collect, evaluate and assess evidence to determine whether it is suitable for your context and how to analyse data to improve practice.
