An important message from ACEL

27/01/2021

It is with immense sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Leonie Jackson on 17 January 2021. Leonie was a passionate advocate for the Deaf community and dedicated much of her life to preserving Deaf culture. She worked extensively in the disability sector in advocacy, teaching, and service delivery roles. Leonie was one of the pioneers of Deaf education and bilingual teaching in Australia, an accomplished presenter, and a dynamic community leader.

Together with our conference partners, the Department of Education Queensland, we extend our deep and sincere sympathies to Leonie’s family, friends and colleagues. With heavy hearts we share a message in Auslan with voice over from Deaf Services and the Deaf Society CEO, Brett Casey.

In this series, participants will have a chance to learn how teachers are working with thinking routines to transform their classrooms into cultures of thinking, and to use the routines themselves to see how they work as tools for all learners.
