This session focuses on the conditions necessary to enhance Self-Worth in schools. When students believe they have a voice in school they are 32% more likely to experience Self-Worth. Developing every student’s Self Worth is possible through deliberate daily interactions that foster positive Self Worth.  In order to support students’ wellbeing and enhance Self-Worth, participants will consider how to embed the Conditions of Belonging, Heroes, and Sense of Accomplishment into their classrooms and schools to support all students in reaching their fullest potential. 27 June 2024 Purpose: Developing the Leader in ALL Students It is not only important for students to have Self-Worth, but to also develop a strong sense of Purpose. When students believe they have a voice in school they are 43% more likely to have a sense of Purpose. Knowing your sense of Purpose is empowering and inspiring.  This session focuses on strategies that foster Leadership & Responsibility and the Confidence to Take Action, two Conditions that ultimately help students identify their purpose in learning and life.

 

Russ Quaglia

Dr. Quaglia is a pioneer in the field of education, known for his unwavering dedication to student voice and aspirations. His innovative work is evidenced by an extensive library of research-based publications and media appearances. He has authored the School Voice suite of surveys and best-selling books, including Student Voice: The Instrument of Change and Engagement by Design. Dr. Quaglia’s most recent award-winning publication is a children’s book, Cay and Adlee Find Their Voice, which was written with his daughter, Cali. His most recent book, The Power of Voice is getting global recognition.  Dr. Quaglia has become a frequent visitor to schools and institutions around the world, demonstrating his passion for ensuring that students', teachers’, principals’ and parents’ voices are always heard, honoured, and acted upon. 



 

Lisa Lande

Dr. Lande has dedicated her professional endeavors to advocating for teachers and students around the globe. It is her aspiration that every classroom in every school is one that she would want her own three children to learn in. Dr. Lande is a former teacher, college professor, and director of several large-scale school reform projects. She currently serves as the Director of International Programs for the Quaglia Institute for School Voice and Aspirations. Dr. Lande is a co-author of Teacher Voice: Amplifying Success; Engagement by Design: Creating Learning Environments Where Students Thrive; and The Power of Voice in Schools: Listening, Learning, & Leading Together.



 

Sue Bryen

Sue Bryen is the Director of Learning Services - Australia with the Quaglia Institute for School Voice and Aspirations. Having worked with hundreds of schools across Australia on implementing school change, Sue now supports school leadership teams in their efforts to better understand and create the conditions that support student voice and collective efficacy. She believes it is through collaboration and co-creation that we can build the capacity of staff and students to listen, learn, and lead together to continually improve student outcomes. As a passionate educator for nearly 30 years, Sue has held a variety of school-based positions, from teacher to principal, before focusing on professional learning and implementation of school improvement interventions. She is widely recognised as an authentic and passionate lead learner who links professional learning research to the pragmatism of schools. Sue is a strong advocate for equity in education and continually seeks to connect with others to be the change they wish to see in the educational environment. Sue has presented both nationally and internationally on the concepts of visible learning, collective efficacy, and student voice and aspirations.
