TEMAG Report Unites Education Leaders

The Australian Council for Educational Leaders welcomed the recommendations of the TEMAG report and commends the Australian Government’s response.

The Hon. Christopher Pyne MP outlined the recommendations of the TEMAG report and the Australian Government’s teacher education reform agenda at an ACEL Special Event on Friday (13.02.15).

“The success of this wave of reforms rests on the strength of AITSL to oversee implementation and to hold universities and their faculties to account,” said Professor Emeritus Brian Caldwell.

Professor Caldwell was Dean of Education at two universities and has conducted reviews of teacher education in two states.

The Australian Council for Educational Leaders joins Professor Caldwell in acknowledging Professor John Hattie as a leader in evidence-based education reform.

ACEL stands by Professor John Hattie and his ability to deliver on the promise of teacher education reform.

“This inquiry was long overdue and puts the focus front and centre on what matters most.

“We can not deal with further reform in education without first dealing with teacher education” said Emeritus Professor Frank Crowther AM, Patron of ACEL.

Minister Pyne delivered the Inaugural Hedley Beare Memorial Lecture to over 200 education leaders from around the country.

Minister Pyne acknowledged ACEL as being the most significant association focused on education in Australia.

“It is significant we are launching the TEMAG report at this ACEL function.

It recognises that ACEL is at the forefront of education practice and improvement and our desire to engage with you,” said Minister Pyne.

AITSL will oversee the implementation of many of the recommendations from the TEMAG report.

“ACEL already has a strong working partnership with AITSL and is willing to support this important reform,” said Aasha Murthy, CEO of ACEL.

The Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL) gives access to world- class empirical research along with the practical support to achieve excellence in leadership in the education sector.
