100 Most Influential West Australians

Three ACEL Fellows were named as overs and shakers’ in the list of the 100 Most Influential West Australians on Saturday. Ms Lee Musumeci (Principal Challis Community Primary School), Ms Janette Gee (President WA Secondary Schools Executive Association) and Mr Stephen Breen (President WA Primary Principals’ Association) were three of only nine named in education and sit alongside the likes of Ms Sharyn O’Neill (Director-General of Education, Department of Education); Prof Patrick Garnett, (Chair of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority), and world renown researcher Prof Donna Cross (Winthrop Professor with the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Western Australia and the Telethon Kids Institute).

  • Ms Lee Musumeci (Principal Challis Community Primary School), was recognised for her work in leading a dramatic increase in young children’s literacy by working with families from birth which in turn inspired the State Government to open child-parent centres based on the Challis model as designed by Lee.
  • Ms Janette Gee (President WA Secondary Schools Executive Association) was recognised for her work long standing and successful advocating for a strong and inclusive public education system.
  • Mr Stephen Breen (President WA Primary Principals’ Association) was recognised for his passion and ability in keeping the needs of younger students in the forefront of the minds of policy makers, and his work as Chair of the Smart Future Foundation.
