The 2022 Inclusion & Disability Conference is proudly presented by Australian Council for Educational Leaders in collaboration with the Queensland Department of Education. This year’s conference theme is: If I belong, I succeed. The Conference will focus on ways in which educators can ensure that all students access and engage in learning.

We are inspired by The Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration’s goal of providing “all young Australians with access to high-quality education that is inclusive and free from any form of discrimination” and ensuring that they “have a sense of belonging, purpose and meaning that enable them to thrive in their learning environment.” The importance of belonging and an equitable education will run through this conference with a concrete focus on making sure participants are walking away with knowledge, skills and connections that can have an impact in their role and context.

Topics will range from the partnership triad of schools, parents and students, to a deep dive into multi-tiered systems of support in Australia, to the different transition points for students and the benefits that inclusion brings to all members of the school community. Experts, researchers, leading practitioners and those accessing life with disabilities will provide insights into associated issues and showcase ways in which leaders, educators and support specialists can make practical change work within their school environment.

ACEL are inviting specialists in the area of inclusion and disability together with teachers, school and system leaders who can help to implement changes both in practice and culture to attend. Speakers will be engaging with participants to ensure that high expectations are set for all students and that the opportunity to succeed, not just attend, is foremost in all education planning. The Inclusion and Disability Conference offers an opportunity to connect with experts and peers and continue the conversation around inclusion and disability so that every student enters and leaves school with a sense of belonging, ownership and success.

ACEL is committed to providing a Covid safe conference and will be guided by the health and safety protocols set by the local Government and health authority.  To see the venue’s Covid safety plans click here.
