A highlight of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders Tasmania Branch is the annual celebration and presentation of awards. ACEL TAS honours those educational leaders who in the view of their peers have made a significant contribution to the understanding and practice of educational leadership.
To assist in this process, we urge all ACEL TAS members to consider nominating worthy candidates for recognition of their leadership and service to education. The award nomination process is confidential until completed, and nominations have been approved. The ACEL TAS Awards committee will evaluate nominations with respect to the essential criteria.
The ACEL TAS awards committee will contact successful nominees on the completion of the process. In all cases the Committee Convenor will also contact all nominators in relation to the outcome of their nomination. Nominations must be received by Monday 5 August 2024
Fellowship Awards
ACEL presents Fellowships to those who have made outstanding educational leadership contributions to ACEL and/or whose work has influenced educational practice at a state and/or national level.
Nominees for ACEL TAS Fellowships must be members of ACEL with at least five years standing, or if retired, must have been a member of at least five years standing at the time of retirement. (Please note, however, that the Committee may waive this condition and accept a shorter period of membership in the light of special circumstances or other evidence provided).
Any member of ACEL in the field of educational leadership or education may be nominated for an ACEL TAS Fellowship. Nominees are also expected to have made an active contribution to ACEL. Members receiving fellowships are permitted to use the post nominal FACEL (TAS).
Evidence needs to be mapped against the following criteria.
1.) Australian Professional Standard for Principals:
- Leading teaching and learning
- Developing self and others
- Leading improvement, innovation and change
- Leading the management of an organisation
- Engaging and working with the community
2.) Contribution/s to ACEL
3.) Contribution/s to the profession beyond the scope of their professional role
The ACEL Tas Eminent Educator for 2024
ACEL TAS’s Outstanding Leadership in Education Award [one only]
This prestigious annual ACEL Award provides a unique opportunity to acknowledge the work of an outstanding Tasmanian educational leader whose achievements have shown exceptional merit including contributing significantly to the work and vision of ACEL.
Essential criteria are:
- A significant contribution to the demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning for self.
- An inspirational and influential leader of others at state and national levels.
- Demonstrated high level commitment to achieving improved educational outcomes for broad cohorts of students.
The ACEL TAS Excellence in Educational Leadership Award
Up to three Awards may be presented.
Awards are presented each year to educators or group of educators who have demonstrated excellent leadership in implementing an educational initiative or conducting research which leads to improved educational outcomes for students within local educational settings.
This certificate of recognition is designed to enable line managers to nominate staff for their exemplary work within their area of responsibility. It is aimed at a variety of leadership contexts be it classroom, faculty, school, tertiary, system or consultancy.
Essential criteria are:
- A significant contribution to the professional learning of others.
- Recognition as an enthusiastic and committed driver of change.
- Building purposeful internal and external relationships.
The ACEL TAS Teacher Leadership Award
This award provides teachers with recognition for their excellent contribution to education in Tasmania.
Essential criteria are:
The improvement of student outcomes through
- Exemplary teaching practice
- A contribution to leading the professional learning of others
- Building purposeful internal and external relationships.
The ACEL TAS Early Career Teacher Leadership Award
This award provides teachers who are in the early stages of their career, generally in their first five years, with recognition for their excellent contribution to education in Tasmania.
Essential criteria are:
The improvement of student outcomes through
- Exemplary teaching practice
- Working collaboratively with others around pedagogy and/or pastoral care
- Building purposeful internal and external relationships.
- Willingness to step up to leadership opportunities if available to them
The Public Discourse Award
This award is presented to an individual who has used print, radio, online or television media to make a significant contribution to raising the levels of public awareness and the quality of debate on significant local or national education issue[s].
