NORM HUNTER
Norm Hunter is a highly respected educator, author, and leadership consultant with a career spanning every level of schooling — from classroom teacher to founding Principal. He was the inaugural Co-Principal, and later Principal, of Hillbrook Anglican School in Brisbane, where his visionary leadership helped shape a school culture grounded in ethical purpose, relational trust, and educational innovation.
As the pioneer and co-author of A Statement of Commitment to the Profession of Teaching, Norm drew on decades of leadership experience to initiate and guide a collaborative process that gave rise to its creation — a unique document in an ongoing conversation around the ethical and philosophical heart of the teaching profession.
An experienced presenter and mentor, his work focuses on the real-world practice of educational leadership — how values are enacted, decisions made, and communities led with integrity. He is a former Vice President of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders, and both a national award winner and National Fellow of ACEL.
Norm’s recently-published book on educational leadership, Between the Idea and the Reality, has attracted attention from school and system leaders and academics.
ALEXANDER MASON
Alexander is a middle leader, educator, and long-standing contributor to the professional life of teachers in Queensland. He currently serves as Head of Learning Innovation at Hillbrook Anglican School and was a Queensland Branch Executive Member of the Australian Council for Educational Leaders from 2017 to 2023, supporting leadership development and fostering networks of professional dialogue across the state.
He is deeply committed to elevating both the public and professional standing of teachers. His leadership is shaped by the belief that teaching is a vocation of extraordinary complexity, value, and moral purpose. A conviction refined from his earliest days in the classroom continues to guide his work: those who can teach, should.
As a co-author of A Statement of Commitment to the Profession of Teaching, Alexander worked with others to articulate the ethical and philosophical foundations of the profession — going beyond standards and structures to affirm the dignity and meaning of teachers’ work across all sectors.
With a background in law prior to entering education, he brings a systems-informed, interdisciplinary perspective to his leadership. He is particularly interested in how teachers regard themselves and one another as professionals, and how that shared sense of identity shapes school culture, policy decisions, and the aspirations of future educators.
