KYLIE CAPTAIN

Kylie Captain is a proud Gamilaroi woman, born and raised in the inner-city Sydney suburbs of Redfern and Waterloo. Kylie is an educational leader and author of Dream Big and Imagine the What If and co-authored Be That Teacher who Makes a Difference & Lead Aboriginal Education for All Students with Dr Cathie Burgess (Kylie’s teacher who made a difference). Kylie's books and accompanying Dream Big Journal are making a difference to the lives of many across the Australia and abroad.

Kylie is the Founder and Director of Dream Big Education Wellbeing & Consulting and the President of the Aboriginal Studies Association. Over the past 22 years, Kylie has had an impressive career in education, Aboriginal affairs, and community service.

In her book, Kylie shares her heart-wrenching story of loss and circumstance. In her honest and powerful voice, she shares her struggles and grief and how she found the strength and inspiration to overcome the challenges she encountered to now enjoy a full and abundant life. Kylie’s story is a testament to the strength of culture, kin, connection to Country and the power of education. Kylie shares her knowledge as an educational leader to motivate and inspire all educators to never stop believing in their students and to inspire all students to recognise their potential and chase their dreams.

She'll share strategies to engage Aboriginal learners and the power of relationships to positively impact student learning.

As the world's longest living and surviving culture, Kylie believes that all Australians can benefit from learning about Australia's true history and, importantly, supporting educators to have the knowledge and confidence to localise and teach Aboriginal histories and cultures respectfully and for all students.

Kylie's lived experience as a proud Aboriginal woman growing up in community enables her to lead participants on a thought-provoking journey of change to work towards a more united country with improved outcomes for Aboriginal students, families and communities.
