ACEL National Fellowship

ACEL presents Fellowships to those members who have made outstanding educational leadership contributions to ACEL and/or whose work has influenced educational practice at a national and/or international level. The Fellowship is a recognition of contributions to the profession beyond the nominee’s day-to-day role. Outstanding individuals who are not members may also be conferred with an Honorary Fellowship in celebration of their contributions.

ACEL Hedley Beare Award for Educational Writing

This award aims to promote quality writing by educators about educational leadership. This award is presented annually for an outstanding piece of educational writing (which may take various forms) that has provided new and significant knowledge about educational leadership. This award was introduced in 2002 as the ACEL Award for Educational Writing. Following its award to Hedley Beare, he graciously consented to the naming of the award in his honour.

ACEL Nganakarrawa Award

ACEL presents the Nganakarrawa Award (pronounced nana-ga-raa-wa) to those whose general excellence in educational leadership and whose learning, experience and contribution have earned lasting respect and gratitude. With its origins in the Ndjebbana language of central Arnhemland, the term Nganakarrawa refers to ‘those who move about, all seeing, all knowing, knowledgeable and well regarded.’

The William Walker Oration

One of the most important annual events for ACEL. It is an invited address dedicated to the memory of WG (Bill) Walker, who died on 25 July 1991 at the age of 62. The oration is delivered at the ACEL national conference as part of the ACEL annual awards ceremony, or as a keynote address. The inaugural William Walker Oration was delivered in 1991 by Rt. Hon. Sir Zelman Cowen, eights weeks after Billʼs untimely death.

ACEL RC Kelly Awards

The RC Kelly Award was inaugurated in 1990 to be presented to the outstanding ACEL affiliate of the preceding calendar year. The award was donated by a former President of ACEA, Robin Gregory, in memory of her father who was an educator. The last award was made in 2001.
