Models of Practice 1 and 2
Models of Practice 1 and 2
Author: David Hopkins
The six models of practice explored in this three-volume series are all rooted in inquiry and in the belief that a teacher’s role is not simply to 'teach', but to create powerful contexts for learning.
Model 1: Cooperative group work – helps students develop both social and intellectual skills by working together in small groups on a range of academic problems.
Model 2: Synectics – encourages students to make connections between concepts and to produce new ways of thinking about a topic or idea.
After completing the included assessment tool on classroom and school conditions, it offers two classroom work models for practice – a cooperative group work model and a synectics model – describing each model’s key features and syntax. It includes peer coaching guides for the models that help facilitate planning, communication and sharing ideas among teacher teams.
