As a school and system leader in Australia and in the UK, I understand that school effectiveness and improvement depends on organisational culture and a focus on building the capacity of others.  Working with schools and leaders across sectors and states, I believe that the engine for school improvement always lies within in the school, its leaders and its classrooms.  My focus and expertise is on enhancing the school’s capacity through providing support and challenge to the Principal and senior leadership team.

My approach is characterised by:

  • An inquiry frame rather than a solution frame, the aim of which is to develop at leadership level a full understanding of existing strengths and areas for improvement;
  • Perceptive, affirming and challenging questioning;
  • The use of data and evidence leading to a rigorous analysis of the issues not just the symptoms;
  • A persuasive and understanding interactive style based on my experience across a much wider range of schools than a single Principal or leader would normally have;
  • Cleary defined accountabilities.
