Title: Start With the Heart: Igniting Hope in Schools Through Social and Emotional Learning

Do all educators understand the basics of social and emotional learning (SEL) and the positive impact it can have on academic achievement? This book introduces SEL competencies and corresponding strategies to model and teach the competencies. In addition to instilling the importance of SEL for students, Start With the Heart addresses the value of beginning with the adults in the school system: If adults do not live out social and emotional competencies in their own lives, they are less likely to be able to teach and model these traits to students.
Ultimately, this book inspires educators to invest in a philosophy of connection, with each other and their students, that will foster SEL, academic achievement, and a positive school climate. Recommendations for Tier 1 and 2 evidence-based curriculum and practices are included in an Appendix and provide the reader with easy access to programs and practices.
