Bio
Paula Taylor has been leading and promoting innovative thinking in how teachers perceive their role as professional educators.  She is an advocate for teacher autonomy, stressing that the teacher in the classroom is ultimately in charge of the learners in front of them (The Principle of Subsidiarity).  She assures her co-workers that they have “permission” to allow formative assessment to change their practice, including the pace of learning and the assessment tools used to promote and measure growth for the students in their care.  Paula uses her expertise in cognitive research to share with the staff on how to improve academic performance through learning and note-taking strategies.  She promotes growth mind sets in her senior chemistry and biology classes; maintains her virtual classroom website to foster collaboration and critical thinking; promotes STEM enrichment activities in her school; coordinates the ACT Science Fair; and organises and provides professional development workshops for her local STA. Her motto is simple:  ‘every child, every chance, every day’.
