Leading Improvement through Innovation - David Price_CXL

Leading Improvement through Innovation in Education - David Price OBE

Leading Improvement Through Innovation is a blend of the creativity of a design thinking methodology, with the rigour of Improvement Science (it’s NOT a specific programme for science teachers!) It’s a 10-step programme, adapted from W.E Deming’s work & the Carnegie Foundation’s Improvement Science approach, based upon a number of core beliefs:
• Change has to be owned by the people who make it happen
• We can only judge the success of change through data
• We need to generate our own data, and responses to that data
• We have much to learn from other disciplines, and their change methods.

It operates contrary to what has been the dominant methodology in educational innovation for at least a decade, often crudely (and wrongly) summarised as ‘What Works’. Leading Improvement Through Innovation takes a different approach:
It asks 3 simple questions:
• What are we trying to accomplish?
• What change can we make that will result in an improvement?
• How will we know that change has effected an improvement?

The cultivation of a ‘designer’s mindset’ has become a key principle for many of the world’s most innovative schools, for both students and staff. Organisations, however, are also expected to demonstrate rigour, discipline and continuous improvement. Does it have to be one or the other? What if you could bring together the best of both worlds? This one-day workshop for school leaders and leadership teams will explore how to lead sustainable cultures for innovation and improvement in our schools that enables us to "get better at getting better”.  The programme will take participants through the first 6 linear steps to solving wicked problems, and once learned as a methodology,  can be applied to any problems - from operational/logistical problems to complex pedagogical challenges.

Participants will receive all open-source materials at the end of the session and are free to use with colleagues.

About David Price OBE

David Price, OBE is an international expert in how organisations - of all types - learn, innovate and make themselves fit for the future. His first book, OPEN: How We’ll Work, Live & Learn In The Future was an Amazon best seller. His most recent book The Power Of Us: How We Connect, Act, And Innovate Together was published in 2020, and is an unashamed celebration of ingenuity around the world. The product of three years research, interviewing organisations and leaders ranging from Fortune 500 companies to innovative NGOs and education innovators, Price was able to put together a unique how-to guide for organisational leaders. His conclusion? That our ability to collaboratively ‘figure things out’ doesn’t rely on an individual's creativity or flair, but on how to create a culture that makes ingenuity a daily, lived experience. The eight key elements of that culture are at the heart of the book and Price’s talks and webinars.

David Price has been a Senior Associate at the Innovation Unit, in England and internationally acclaimed learning futurist. He has led ground-breaking, education programs that have successfully re-engaged learners in thousands of schools in many countries including UK, Canada, Singapore and Australia. David has given keynote presentations all over the world and created hugely popular teaching resources.

He is a highly sought-after speaker, trainer and masterclass leader. His work spans the worlds of education and business as his expertise lies in how individuals and groups learn, and develop cultures of innovation. Over a twenty-year education and business career, he has advised a wide range of organisations - including corporations, tech start-ups, schools and government departments.

The unprecedented challenges we’re all facing as a result of the Covid pandemic demands collaborative ingenuity on a scale and at a speed never seen before. When this crisis has passed, the organisations that survive will be the ones who have learned how to harness the power of us.  The key that unlocks innovation and the power of us is, of course, our ability to learn and adapt. David has been at the forefront of innovation in organisational learning for over 30 years. In 2009, he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty The Queen, for services to Education.
