WA Branch News

Message from the Acting Branch President, Mathilda Joubert

Many students struggle with emotional, behavioural and/or cognitive self-regulation. This can have significant detrimental impact on their learning and wellbeing. But do we just need to accept this, or can self-regulation be taught to individuals and fostered within whole-school cultures? This is the question that we will be pondering at our Pivotal People event in Perth on Wednesday the 20th of October from 5pm – 7pm, presented by Merrilee Wright, ACEL Executive Member and Principal of Malibu School. Please join us for an exciting evening of learning, reflecting, discussion and networking with other ACEL members. Please also feel free to extend an invitation to other colleagues. We predict this evening will have very wide appeal.

Further details about this event can be found below. The event is free, but please book your spot here so that we have accurate numbers for catering.

I hope that you have a fulfilling and enriching Term 4.

Time: 5.00pm – 7.00pm

Join us for an informative evening where ACEL Executive Member and Principal Merrilee Wright will explore how to foster student self-regulation in schools. Inspired by her daughter with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Merrilee developed a holistic framework to foster learner self-regulation in the classroom that has since been embedded in mainstream primary and secondary schools as well as special needs contexts. Come and join us to discover more about this adaptable visual Framework promoting communication and self-regulation, how it differs from existing self-regulation and behaviour management models, how it will strengthen or compliment models already in place and how it can be implemented and personalised to meet the unique needs of each learner relevant to all ages at home and / or at school.
