The event will feature a series of live keynote presentations, Q & A sessions and chat room discussions. The event will provide valuable insights into how education can continue to deliver high quality teaching and learning in a new and starkly different world.

Early Childhood Conference
NEW DATES ANNOUNCED

In response to the continuing development of COVID-19, ACEL, in partnership with the Victorian Department of Education wish to formally announce further postponement of the Early Childhood National Conference. We are pleased to announce that the two-day conference will now be held on 27 – 28 April 2021 and will remain at the same venue, The Pullman Melbourne Albert Park.

Celebrating its 5th anniversary, the annual Early Childhood Conference presents the opportunity for early childhood leaders and educators from across Australia and New Zealand to engage, network and collaborate for best practice in the early childhood sector.
The conference will bring together renowned local and international leaders in early childhood including: Prof Pasi Sahlberg, Prof Iram Siraj, Prof Yoichi Sakakihara, Prof. Karen Thorpe, and Prof.Tonia Gray; with the event hosted once again by Tim Maddren.

The health and wellbeing of our members, customers and partners remain as our highest priority. We have not taken this decision lightly and are confident the new dates will ensure we maximise the opportunity for engagement and professional development.

ACEL Proudly Present our Three Part Webinar Series with Pasi Sahlberg

Around the world children spend less time playing and physical outdoor activities than before. Yet, research and advice from paediatricians suggest that play is a critical part of children’s growing up and healthy emotional and social development. Simple as it sounds, letting children play more seems to be hard to put in practice in schools and at home. This series provides principals, teachers and parents with closer look at what is the state of play today in our societies, why play makes a difference in children’s wellbeing and learning, and how can we make most of playtime in school and at home.

Webinar Series for Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener
WELLBEING IN EDUCATION

This webinar series brings the topic of wellbeing to home for educators. Using a variety of professional surveys, educator interviews, and published research, Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener will discuss trends in and obstacles to wellbeing. He will provide an overview of the topic in the first session. In the second session, he will explore the nature of distress and its effects on our thinking and work. Here, he will also provide specific strategies for managing distress effectively. In the third and final session, Robert will argue that attending to positives—although not exclusively—is also a vital aspect of effective coping.

Our next AEL COVID-19 Special Edition will be released on Wednesday 29th July. Do feel free to sample and share Malcolm Elliott’s article from our first Special Edition.

As the pandemic emerged I was swept up in what seemed like a minute by minute evolution of the seriousness of the situation. Instantly the media seemingly turned all its collective attention to Covid-19 (or SARS-Cov-4 as I believe it should technically be called).

One of my first reflections was of a risk assessment and management trial run by the Tasmanian State Government more than 10 years ago. As a participant in this trial I learned that if schools were closed the state’s economy would crash because many workers would need to be at home to look after their children. It was apparent that such an occurrence had the capacity to do irreparable damage economically and socially. It was a dreadful prospect.
