Maximising Learning and Impact
Influences that matter the most to Student Learning

SYMPOSIUM WITH PROFESSOR JOHN HATTIE + SAM RODGERS
This day supports participants to identify what has the greatest impact on student achievement and develops capacity to understand the key messages of the Visible Learning research.

The Symposium has been designed for school leaders and teachers who are seeking to embed the latest research into how to further understand, evaluate and maximise impact on learning. Key questions that underpin the day include, What are the characteristics of a culture of impact? How do you define 'impact' in your school? In what ways do you know, understand and maximise it?  How do you know that you are having a positive impact on all of your learners? What are the influences that research identifies has a considerable impact on developing the skill, will and thrill of learning?

FOUNDATION DAY WITH SAM RODGERS
The Foundation day seminar supports participants to identify what has the greatest impact on student achievement and develops capacity to understand the key messages of the Visible Learning research. This research makes us stop and think about the vast amount we already do know and take stock about what really does make the difference to student learning. The seminar provides practical activities and take-away tools.

Visible Learning for Literacy

WORKSHOP FOCUS
This workshop demonstrates how using the right approach at the right time can help you more intentionally design classroom experiences that hit the surface, deep, and transfer phases of learning. This workshop covers Visible Learning research, its connections to surface, deep, and transfer learning as it relates to literacy, the most impactful approaches to use in each stage of learning, and the tools for measuring your impact on student learning.

Learning Outcomes:
Participants will:

  • Apply the principles of Visible Learning research to the literacy classroom.
  • Understand the three phases of learning and the unique importance of each: surface, deep, and transfer.
  • Learn which literacy practices have the greatest impact on student growth (and which have the least) to maximize and strategize teaching time.
  • Strategize what practices to implement at the right time in a student’s learning, while keeping rigor in mind.
  • Assess the impact of one’s teaching on one’s students—and what to do next as a result.
