NSW Department of Education

For the second year in a row The Australian Council for Educational Leaders are proud to partner with our co-presenter for this year’s conference – The NSW Department of Education. We thank the department for their support and look forward to collaboratively bringing together this important and premier conference for the Early Childhood Educational Sector.

The NSW Department of Education serves the community by leading the provision of world-class education. The department protects young children by regulating preschool and long day care providers. Once children move into school, we provide them with a world-class primary and secondary education. We also work to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

The department is the largest education provider in Australia. More than 760,000 students are enrolled in NSW public schools and we employ more than 84,000 staff.

The Early Childhood Education Directorate (ECED) monitors, supports and regulates early childhood education services in NSW. We work to ensure the delivery of quality early education for children from birth up to and including school age.

Our strategic priorities
The directorate is focussed on ensuring:

  • universal access
  • choice and sustainability
  • quality learning environments
  • support for diverse needs
  • an educational and learning focus

Who we are
Our staff are based at offices in central Sydney, Bankstown, Parramatta and regional NSW locations. Through communicating and working in collaboration with a range of stakeholders and professionals who work with children in a range of early childhood education environments, we ensure the delivery of high quality services to build a better future for children. As the NSW Regulatory Authority for early childhood education services, the department of education is responsible under the National Law and Regulations, to ensure services meet the requirements to operate under the National Quality Framework. The department is also responsible for implementing and administering state-based funding to continuously improve the quality of and access to early childhood education in NSW.

HarperCollins occupies a unique place in Australian and New Zealand publishing. In both nations we are the oldest publisher – with a heritage dating back to the bush ballads and school books of the late nineteenth century – and the most forward thinking in terms of our transition to the global digital world of today.

Through the decades, our publishing has been distinguished by a commitment to quality and creativity plus an innate understanding of what Australians and New Zealanders want to read and how.
