A Conference with a Difference...

The Concept:  This conference is not strictly about education. Participants will be invited to address the proposition that the world has changed fundamentally over the last ten years or so in ways that are not yet widely understood. According to Daniel Pink, we have moved beyond the Knowledge Age, and have entered the Conceptual Age: where creativity is now as important as intellectual endeavour. In a country where the media and politicians continue to regard the effectiveness of schools to be reflected in their comparative NAPLAN results, Pink's proposition has major implications for education, and hence for educational leaders. Daniel Pink will launch the conference with a provocation to participants, and he will engage the audience in discussing it.

The Structure:  The theme of Educational Leadership for the Conceptual Age will be structured each day around three pillars: Session 1, Provocation; Session 2, Purpose; Session 3, Practice. In each session, presenters will focus strongly on the relevant pillar as it relates to leading in the Conceptual Age.

Interactive Sessions:  Every session will be interactive, which means that the conference participants will be major contributors to the conference proceedings. Conference organisers will contact every presenter well before the conference to offer support regarding the interactive nature of their session. If necessary the organisers will assist them to structure in activities that will ensure that this happens.

Professional Learning Resource:  A post-conference professional learning resource will be developed and produced, based on the evolving themes of the conference. It will be a tool that participants can use in the contexts of their own schools for their own professional learning, and to use with teachers, parents and governing bodies. It will be available at a reduced rate for conference participants.
