Noel West
(DipTeach (Armidale CAE), BA (Macquarie), M Ed Admin (UNSW), FACEL (NSW)

 

His appointment as Principal to Bennett Road Public School allowed Noel to draw on his experiences and interests to create professional networks between a group of primary schools and the local high school. His leadership has created an active, resilient and responsive learning community recognised for its ingenuity, resourcefulness and responsibility towards meeting the needs of all students K-12 in the local Colyton – St Marys area. Noel has enjoyed the support, professionalism and personal qualities of other principals in the operation of the Colyton Learning Community.Noel West has had a diverse and challenging career as a school teacher and educational leader in NSW government schools. Noel has taught in and led schools in north-west, northern and western suburbs of Sydney; central NSW and the Hunter area. His teaching and leadership positions include a Central school (K-10), two semi-rural and three suburban schools. Noel was merit selected as Principal to Bennett Road Public School in 2000. This is a large school in western Sydney with special education classes.

Through the Minchinbury – Mount Druitt and Western Sydney Region principals’ association, Noel has facilitated access to challenging and insightful speakers for several conferences relevant to local, State and National educational topics.

Noel’s long-standing interest in cutting-edge educational leadership resulted in his participation in the re-creation of ACEL Penrith as vice-president (2005-2008). In 2006 – 2007 Noel served as secretary of ACEL NSW and in 2008 became President of ACEL NSW and a Director of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders.

Michael Windred
(M.Ed, B.Ed and Dip.T)

Michael has worked as a principal, executive, teacher and educational consultant in small isolated rural schools, Primary, Central, and a School for Specific Purpose in both the New South Wales and the Alberta (Canada) Education systems. Throughout his career he has led groups of educators in the areas of catering for diversity, consistency in teacher judgement, curriculum development and best practice in teaching and learning. Whilst in Alberta he wrote special education units for the University of Alberta and assisted with the review of transition programs in Sasketchewen. 

Whilst as a consultant in North West NSW he guided beginning and experienced teachers in implementing literacy and numeracy blocks, programming and how to use authentic teaching, assessment and tracking methodologies. 

Michael is currently Principal of Werris Creek Public School, which is situated in the New England region of regional New South Wales. He is Vice President of ACEL (NSW) and coordinator of the regional affiliates of New South Wales.

Christine Brooker (B.Ed. (Admin. Leadership), Dip. Teach, FACEL)

 As an experienced and highly respected educational leader, Chris Brooker has served as a principal, school executive and classroom teacher for over 34 years. She is passionate about leadership and the positive difference that it can make to teacher and student learning outcomes.  Over many years, Chris has led and facilitated the professional learning of her principal colleagues, and other staff at a school, district, region and state-wide level in the area of leadership, school improvement and curriculum development.

Chris has been formally recognised with a Fellowship from ACEL, a Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence, a Regional Director’s Award for Leadership, a NSW Professional Award recognizing her positive contribution to the professional development of colleagues over many years and Life Membership of the NSW Primary Principals’ Association which acknowledged her exemplary career and valued contribution to public education and the NSW Primary Principals’ Association.

Chris is a member of the NSW Branch of Principals’ Australia and the NSW Board of ACEL. She has always been interested in the welfare and professional development of her colleagues and is currently working in a mentoring and coaching role with primary principals as part of the NSW Priority Schools’ Program.

Westley Field

Westley is currently Director of Online Learning at M.L.C. and the manager of a global virtual world initiative called Skoolaborate. Skoolaborate is enabling students from across the world the opportunity to together.

He presents around the world on topics such as Education in Virtual Worlds, Making 1 to 1 work, Heuristics of implementing e-learning, Educational Technology, Connecting Students in a Web 2.0 world and Leading in a Flat World.

Westley has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship, Computerworld Honours (Smithsonian), ASLA Innovative Technology John Lee Award, Apple Distinguished Educator, Macromedia Ed Leader and Adobe Ed Leader for his work with schools and communities.

Westley is currently an observer on the Board for the NSW and Sydney branches of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders. We are very thankful to have Westley sharing with us his expertise in the area of technology. He is the producer of and the voice that introduces the ACEL podcasts. We would not be able to offer this wonderful service without Westley’s expertise.

 

Lila Mularczyk

Lila is in her 8th year as Principal at Merrylands High School and 5th year as an elected  Deputy President of the NSW Secondary Principals’ Council (SPC).

Merrylands High School in recent years has been recognised at a regional, state and national level for a number of successful and innovative programs including leadership, values, quality teaching, social harmony and community participation. 
As an SPC Executive and Senior Executive Lila is/or has been responsible at a State level for Student Services; Welfare and Equity; Leadership, aspects of Role of the Principal, Sustaining Quality Schools and Principal Authority and Autonomy projects; Professional Learning and State Assembly Programs; Mentor and Coaching; Technology, School Website Service; procurement and assets, Finance, Infrastructure; sport; convener of  State annual conference and numerous Regional Conferences; corporate services; publicity, media and marketing of  Public Education and emergent issues. 
Further, Lila is also the SPC representative trained in Covey, a trainer and presenter in Coaching and author and presenter in System developed Leadership and Professional Learning Programs, author of numerous Educational Journal articles, state reports, editorials and Book Reviews , she is an Editorial Committee member of a National Principal Journal and The SPC Community of Schools coordinator. 
She has lectured at several Sydney universities as a guest or as an appointed lecturer and has her Masters in Education, Lila has also presented at Union conferences.  She has been awarded an ACEL Educational Leadership Fellowship and a Department of Education Merit Service Award to Public Education. Lila has recently become a state Board member of Australian College of Educational Leaders (ACEL).

Lila has represented and presented on behalf of SPC and The Australian Secondary Principals’ Association (ASPA) across rural and Metropolitan NSW, all Australian States and Territories, New Zealand, China (International Distinguished Principals Forum) and Singapore (International Confederation of Principals Convention).  Lila is currently  developing international Principal networks through the state Professional Association (SPC).

Anne McIntyre (M.Litt., B.A., Dip. T., Grad. Dip. OLCD, FACEL)

Ann McIntyre is the Director of Professional Learning and Leadership Development, in the NSW Department of Education and Training. In this role Ann leads a team that serves the professional learning needs of over 2250 school leaders, 50,000 teachers and 15,000 administrative staff.

Ann came to this position having been the Superintendent of schools in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. In this role Ann led a diverse group of schools through a major period of change for four years. Prior to this, Ann was a School Principal for eight years. During her principalship, the school and Ann received numerous awards and a Quality Assurance Report stating “this school is on the leading edge of best practices in teaching and learning”.

Ann was an inaugural winner of the Sydney Leadership Award. This award targeted leaders with vision, intellectual rigour and a strong commitment to social justice. Ann has been awarded Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders in acknowledgement of her significant contribution to the professional learning and leadership development of educators in NSW. 

Ann has a strong commitment to professional learning as the key strategy for improving school practices and enhancing learning outcomes for all students, their teachers and school leaders. Ann is highly sought after to provide keynote addresses and professional learning in teaching, leadership and school improvement.

Wayne Ash (M.Ed, Grad Dip Spec Ed, Dip.T)

 

Wayne Ash is currently Principal of Dapto Public School, the largest primary school in the Wollongong /Illawarra area. Wayne has also served as a Chief Education Officer for the NSW Department of Education and Training managing areas including strategic planning and data analysis, targeted school projects and school reviews. Wayne has also relieved as a School Education Director and Senior Officer, School Operations.

He commenced his teaching career in 1978 as a teacher-in –charge at Bylong Upper Public School in the Western Region of NSW and has worked in a variety of teacher and leadership positions in schools in NSW and overseas.

Michael Bezzina (BA(Hons), DipEd, MEdStuds, PhD)

 

Associate Professor Michael Bezzina is Head of the School of Educational Leadership, and Director of the Centre for Creative and Authentic Leadership at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) since the start of 2007. This is his second time around at ACU, having taught there between 1981 and 19991 in preservice teacher education programs. In the intervening period he was in system leadership roles in Catholic education in the Diocese of Parramatta, significantly as Director of Religious Education and Educational Services, with responsibility for areas as disparate as curriculum, student welfare, professional and leadership development, special education, and religious education. 

In a rich and varied career Mick has been a secondary school teacher, school leader, teacher educator, consultant, system administrator, process facilitator and researcher. He has worked with organisations in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Fiji and Pakistan. He has held leadership roles in schools, universities and school systems.  He has a passionate commitment to working with leaders to promote authentic learning for all students.  His major research and writing interests are: the role of values and moral purpose in leadership for improved learning; Catholic schooling; and university community engagement.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders, and holds (or has held) adjunct Professorships at ACU, the University of Western Sydney and the University of Fiji.

VIC – World leader on school improvement, Professor John Hattie, has spoken at a conference for principals in Melbourne.

NT – Students from Lanhapuy Homelands School have created video clips designed to be watched on mobile phones that encourage smokers to quit or to not take up smoking.

NATIONAL – Head of World Vision, Tim Costello, has said geography should play a prominent role in the national curriculum, to ensure students understand climate change, asylum seekers and issues surrounding indigenous Australians.

NATIONAL – The Australian Psychological Society has criticised federal funding for school chaplains, saying the program is ‘dangerous’ to student’s mental health.

NATIONAL – Teacher education is set to be overhauled next year, with higher entry standards in English and maths being set.
