ACEL ACT

The Canberra Region Affiliate of the Australian Council for Educational Administration was founded in 1972 as the ACT Institute of Education and Administration. Emeritus Professor Phillip Hughes was the foundation President. The Canberra region was one of the earliest affiliates and played a major contribution as being among the members sponsoring the establishment of the National ACEL at the first National Conference which was held in Wagga Wagga in 1974. Canberra hosted the second National Conference at which Professor Sir Bill Taylor, Principal of the University of London was a keynote speaker.

The Canberra Region  now has an active and committed membership from across all sectors of education. It holds regular dinner meetings with speakers reflecting current trends in education, in administration and in leadership. The annual Currie Lecture to honour the memory of Sir George Currie, a visionary and passionate leader in education. Periodic workshops and mini conferences enable members to share the expertise of educationalists in areas of interest to members. The opportunity to network with other members and reflect on topical issues is a welcome bonus at all Canberra Region functions. Members are encouraged to introduce new members and non-members are welcome to attend all social functions.
