Disinformation erodes trust in institutions, damages learning culture and saps curiosity. School leaders must be alert to “fake news” and the dangers it poses to students. If, as educational leaders, we are committed to ensuring that students become active, engaged citizens then we need to turn our attention to making sure that educators and students alike are news literate. Everyone should have the skills to navigate the news cycle:  understand where it comes from, who and what shapes it and understand the role of and value of journalism in today’s society.
