The Australian Council for Educational Leaders 2016 National Conference gets underway at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre (MCEC) later this week. This three-day event will run from Wednesday the 28th September till Friday the 30th September.

The ACEL Conference is the premier event for educational leaders across the country and wider Asia-Pacific region. Over 1200 delegates will be attending the 2016 conference from all sectors of education, including a large number of school leaders and teachers.

The program includes keynote addresses from global thought leaders in a wide range of educational fields. These include the following international and national speakers, recognised as among the top educational professionals in the world: Daniel Goleman, best-selling author in the field of emotional intelligence; Sugata Mitra, leader in the field of educational technology; John Hattie, international leader in data analysis and developer of Visible Learning; Carol Tomlinson, international leader and author in education policy and educating every student; Ben Walden, Actor and Artistic Director of the innovative education company Contender Charlie; Brian Caldwell, national leader in system, school and policy developments; Wendy Kopp, CEO and Founder of Teach for All, an organisation innovating leadership in education; Jane West, education policy expert and Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland and Frank Crowther, Emeritus Professor and ACEL Patron. These speakers will be joined by well-known public figures including Rosie Batty, and former WA Premier Geoff Gallop, who will deliver the prestigious William Walker Oration. The educational leaders from across the nation and the globe will reflect on the challenges faced by students and members in the community, on the perceptions and assumptions educators have of their students, community members, and colleagues.

Conference delegates will be encouraged to build their own learning narrative across the three days, while reflecting on the insights shared by the keynote speakers and presenters at the 50 concurrent sessions.

ACEL CEO Aasha Murthy states “Australia needs a profession-lead reform agenda for education that is supported by a strong evidence base. Our conference gives educational leaders the opportunity to hear from global thought leaders as well as practitioners, showcasing best practice at the school and system level”

ACEL is the largest professional association in the education sector with over 6500 members and a growing network of over 30,000 educators.
