Lisa Campbell

Position Deputy Principal
Organisation Peg's Creek Primary School
Location Pilbara, WA

Lisa is the Deputy Principal of Peg's Creek Primary School located in the Pilbara, Western Australia. In her diverse career, she has enjoyed several different roles in both primary and secondary contexts that have influenced her leadership practices. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Science (Mathematics), which provided the opportunity to acquire new skills with a teaching placement in a secondary setting where she became a mathematics and science teacher in a district high school. Lisa was involved in extensive training for Students At Educational Risk (SAER) and she developed school processes to enhance practices that would accommodate students at risk. Her level of knowledge and skill was acknowledged by leaders of the school where she undertook the Head of Learning Area: Mathematics. Lisa has worked as the Middle School Team Leader; Learning Support Coordinator; Numeracy Specialist and then transitioned to the Teacher Consultant role for Classroom Management Strategies, working across several schools and liaising with principals and teachers. Lisa saw opportunity to work alongside groups of teachers to trial instructional strategies. Her strong belief in action learning to promote innovation and being critical of impact supported teachers' growth in their professional practice. She has been at Peg’s Creek Primary School for the last six years as the Deputy Principal. She seeks to broaden and challenge beliefs to maximise the learning potential for all children. This may either be within a curriculum area or through targeted behavioural interventions. An excitable aspect to the role is that the ability to influence change within the school requires agility, integrity and a level of vulnerability so staff choose to walk alongside you during the journey. Building a team that is willing to work together, be open to other’s ideas and opinions, and to set ambitious targets has supported the steady progress of improvement through her leadership. Anticipating hurdles throughout the change and being willing to consult when needed or to be decisive have been attributes that she has adopted to reflect the need for adapting leadership practices. With longevity in the school network she has formed strong links with colleagues and broadened her perspective to more systemic and global influences while maintaining a robust focus on students. Each of her experiences, in her 30-year career, has shaped her passion for setting the learning agenda for students, teachers and herself.
