Alexandra is currently a Senior Policy Officer in the Teaching Standards and Accreditation Directorate at the NSW Education and Standards Authority, where she is responsible for leading the early childhood team in support ing NSW’s early childhood teachers with teacher accreditation. She believes valuing the professionalism of teachers, supporting their professional growth and developing a vibrant connected network of professionals is essential in ensuring the provision of high-quality educational experiences for every child in NSW. Prior to this role, she held teaching and educational leadership positions in the early childhood, primary and tertiary sectors across government and independent systems, spanning a twenty-five year period. During this time, she led the introduction of key initiatives in the areas of mathematics, early childhood and primary pedagogy, wellbeing and transition-to-school programs. She was also involved in several educational building projects, including a playground masterplan that was awarded a Kidsafe National Playground Award. Her interest in nature pedagogy and sustainability saw her introduce Bush and Beach Programs for Kindergarten students. The NSW Government has acknowledged her work in this area by awarding her a NSW Premier’s Teacher Scholarship. She connected this work with her passion for promoting positive wellbeing in children and teachers after completing a Master of Applied Positive Psychology. Her teaching and leadership skills have been recognised by being selected to participate in university research projects, contribute to early childhood publications, present at state, national and international conferences. In addition, she has received several awards for her teaching and leadership, including an Apiary Fellowship, an Australian Government Endeavour Executive Leadership Award (Global Leadership) and being named as a top 50 finalist in the Global Teacher Prize. She enjoys a global presence being the Australasian advisory board member for the Varkey Teacher Ambassador Program and the Australian Ambassador for the Innovation Lab Schools Project, which has been set up in conjunction with the Jane Goodall Institute.
