Position Director of Teaching and Learning
Organisation The Kings School
Location North Parramatta, NSW

Leading learning is critical in my capacity to be a forward thinking, relevant and responsive educator. We are teaching in the most exciting time to be a learner which requires us to be forward thinking and innovative in our approach to student learning. Students can learn about almost anything which is an exciting prospect for teachers. As Director of Teaching and Learning, I’ve invested enormous energy into developing a clear vision for our staff to embrace a shift in their role as facilitators of learning. It is an influential leadership role, focused on fostering a learning culture for staff and students that promotes academic rigour combined with a lifelong openness to growth and commitment to the service of others. The delivery of programs and opportunities for staff and students sees me responsible for the leadership and management of whole school and community building initiatives in a complex and innovative organisation. In achieving these outcomes, I have implemented and coordinated the following programs including leading the creation of The King’s Institute which focuses on the enhancement of teaching and learning, professional practice, educational research and professional learning. I've organised the National Boys Education Conference which included over 350 delegates addressing the critical issues facing boys' education. The transformation of our innovative professional learning program has forged stronger connections between the school and our parents through our Parent Masterclasses Series. Never has it been more important for schools to invest in their staff and unlock the leadership capabilities of current and potential educational leaders. In meeting this challenge, I've developed a new whole school leadership development program through LeadCOMM. A new professional learning program designed to develop leadership excellence for both our teaching and non-teaching staff. The innovative program has had the capacity to empower our leaders by giving them the tools to achieve a high level of performance, behaviours and mindsets in leading learning. Other significant programs in fostering a strong learning community have included establishing research partnerships with universities, leading teacher accreditation at all levels and introducing a New Teacher Mentoring program and the ‘Growth and Development Cycle’ for teacher evaluation and reflection. This role has allowed me, through my vision and leadership, to develop, enhance and implement a range of school wide programs and community initiatives that are responsive and innovative in meeting the exciting possibilities in education. I work closely and collaboratively in the management of our curricular leaders and co-ordinators in the design and evaluation of programs which enhance and support student achievement and sustain learning cultures of academic and wellbeing. This is a challenging and high profile role in context which seeks excellence, working with students and staff in a range of contexts towards achieving our goal of developing leadership capacity and character. My capacity to build collaborative relationships has contributed to my achievements in transforming culture and implementing key strategic priorities. It is for these reasons why I can be considered to be a forward thinking, relevant and responsive educator.
