ACT Branch News

Message from the Branch President, Kirk Zwangobani

20/09/2022

I trust this newsletter finds you well at the start of our last week of term.

For some time now, there are two things that I do each year, without fail.

  • Nominate a colleague for the ACEL ACT Awards, and
  • Attend the ACEL National Conference (unless I am out of the country!).

National Conference (last call for registrations)

It would be difficult to find a more dynamic and engaging educational leadership conference than ACEL’s National Conference.

Whether you are new to ACEL conferences, or the national conference is an annual pilgrimage, this year’s diverse line up of speakers promise to challenge you, inspire hope, and equip us all to lead the future.

You can find more information on the program, pre-conference workshops, and various sessions here.

Thanks in advance to the amazing work of the National team that have made it possible.

I really hope you can make it.

ACT ACEL Awards

One of ACEL’s strategic pillars, and I hope a priority for all of us, is to recognise and empower educational leaders. That is, to recognise and celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion in education and educational leadership and, in looking to the future, empower the next generation of educational leaders.

The process is not onerous, and there are few better rewards in education than the humbling experience of being recognised by one’s peers for leadership.

You can find more information on the award categories (below) and the nomination process here.

  • ACEL ACT Growing in Leadership Award
  • ACEL ACT Excellence in Educational Leadership Award
  • ACT Trish Wilks Award for Collaborative Practice
  • ACT Fellowship Award

The awards ceremony is scheduled for the first week of November.

Congratulations to ACT’s ACEL New Voice Scholar

Speaking of awards, congratulations to Maxine Galante, the Deputy Principal at Margaret Hendry School. Maxine was recently announced as a 2022 recipient of an ACEL ‘New Voice’ in Educational Leadership.

Maxine has an impressive bio and several accolades including now, as an ACEL New Voice Scholar. Maxine’s future focus and fresh perspectives stem from her research, networking, and on the ground experience. As an influential educator she is at the fore of innovation in education.

I look forward to sharing more of Maxine’s story with you.

Have a good break (and enjoy the conference).
